This year, an impressive 2,41,641 candidates have been included in the merit list, a significant increase of 41,773 students compared to last year, highlighting the rising competition.

Mark your calendars! The counselling process is spread across several weeks, with specific dates allocated for different categories.

  • Special Category Counselling (Online):
    • For government school students (7.5% reservation) including sportspersons, differently-abled, and wards of ex-servicemen: July 7 and 8, 2025.
  • General Counselling (Online):
    • This includes Academic, Vocational, and Government School (7.5%) streams.
    • Start Date: July 14, 2025
    • End Date: August 26, 2025

A Detailed Look at the General Counselling Schedule

The general counselling for the academic stream will be conducted in three main rounds. This structured approach ensures that candidates are grouped based on their cut-off marks, making the process more organized.

Round 1:

  • Participants: 39,145 candidates
  • Cut-off Range: 200 to 179
  • Key Deadline: The last date to confirm the provisional allotment is July 19, 2025.

Round 2:

  • Commences On: July 26, 2025
  • Participants: 25,376 candidates
  • Cut-off Range: 178.965 to 143.085

Round 3:

  • Commences On: August 7, 2025
  • Participants: 1,01,588 candidates
  • Cut-off Range: 143 to 77.500

Aspirants from the vocational stream will have a single round of counselling. After receiving a provisional allotment, all candidates will be given five days to report to their assigned college.

Understanding the Counselling Process

The TNEA single-window counselling is a streamlined online process. Here’s a brief overview of what to expect:

  1. Choice Filling: Based on your rank, you will be able to fill in your preferred choices of colleges and courses. It is advisable to have a well-researched list of choices ready.
  2. Provisional Allotment: The system will allot a seat based on your rank, community reservation, and the choices you submitted.
  3. Confirmation: You will need to confirm your decision. You can either accept the seat, accept with an option for upward movement (if you hope for a better choice), or decline.
  4. Reporting to College: Once you accept a seat, you must report to the allotted institution within the stipulated time to complete the admission formalities.

This year, out of 2,50,298 applicants who paid the fee, 2,41,641 are set to participate in the general counselling, comprising 1,32,582 boys, 1,09,055 girls, and four transgender candidates. With the entire process concluding by August 26, it is set to finish two weeks earlier than last year, despite a slightly delayed start.
